Exactly how steamy is this story?
PG
Twilight has some un-G-rated content, but not much. Edward and Bella share a couple of intense kisses. They do sleep in the same room, but Edward simply snuggles with Bella and watches over her as she sleeps. Many readers have commented that Edward and Bella's relationship makes chastity look romantic. Time magazine even claimed that Twilight is about the "erotics of abstinence" (source).
However, other readers believe there's more sex in this book than meets the eye. In fact, in his review of Twilight the movie, film critic Roger Ebert said,
We all know there is no such thing as a vampire. Come on now, what is "Twilight" really about? It's about a teenage boy trying to practice abstinence, and how, in the heat of the moment, it's really, really hard. And about a girl who wants to go all the way with him, and doesn't care what might happen. He's so beautiful she would do anything for him. She is the embodiment of the sentiment, "I'd die for you."
