Character Role Analysis

Count Fosco

Ah, Fosco. We love to hate this guy. He's the evil mastermind behind most of the book's crimes, including sending Laura to the asylum. Marian seriously loathes him, which is a major strike against him (because Marian is basically the best judge of character ever). And Fosco gets to have the dramatic, end-of-the-novel confrontation with our hero, Walter—which is a surefire sign of being an antagonist.
