What is involved in the process of renting-to-own? Renting to own is a residential real estate agreement in which the renter pays an upfront fee to an owner in order to create an option to buy or purchase agreement at the end of a separate rental lease. The rent will often include a premium above market rate which is applied towards the final purchase price.
