What is a docusoap?

Docusoap is a combination of the word "documentary" and "soap opera."

And a docusoap is

something like The Real Housewives of Atlanta,

Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Shows where you are documenting people in their actual situations.

So a show like Masterchef, that you mentioned,

or The Amazing Race -

those kinds of shows,

you're putting people in very specific situations and then filming them.

A docusoap follows

people in their natural environments.

It's still scripted. It's still edited to seem a certain way,

but it is different watching the Kardashians live in their house

as opposed to putting the Kardashians on a deserted island

and seeing how they fare.
