You're expected to make a mean coffee, deal with difficult customers, get walked all over, and do it all with a smile, a good attitude, and without letting it compromise your brewing skills. Yeah... don't expect a pat on the back unless you're employee of the month.
There is one catch: latte art. If you find a way to impress the heck out of your customers by making Steve Jobs appear in their coffee, they will lose it with their extreme admiration (for Steve Jobs, mostly, but you'll come in a close second). If you get good enough, you could even go to some of the competitions they have for things like this. For some inexplicable reason, society goes nuts for coffee with pictures in it.
