Breaking into the professional ranks is another story. It's tough—really tough.
The first step is to start caddying at a club (or for family members or friends) early and often. Once you're in, you'll be able to make connections.
Caddies and golfers have very close relationships, so don't think you're just going to start caddying for Bubba Watson. You'll need to build relationships wisely, and follow the golfers with the most potential if you want a shot at the big bucks. And unless you find a pro so headstrong that they never ask for advice, you'll need to make sure your golf knowledge is top-notch as well.
