Odds of Getting In
Computer animation is techno-cool. It's cutting edge, it's artsy, and it's highly competitive. As with most fields that are identified with creativity, innovation, and aesthetics, the number of aspiring computer animators far outpaces demand. So, to increase your chances of employment, build a portfolio of your best work and do your best to continue improving.
Academic credentials are great, but they're not as important here as they would be in other fields—nuclear engineering, for example. Experience counts big time, so it's good to have some internships to go along with that portfolio. If you're working for peanuts (or less), but you're learning from well-respected animators, it'll help you get a leg up on the competition.
