Glory
If you're looking for glory in this line of work, you can fight the war on terrorism (in a roundabout way). The U.S. Army employs dietitians as part of their health care staff.
Dietitians in the military set policies for hospital food service operations, plan training programs for medical food service personnel, develop diets for patients, conduct nutrition assessment of wounded soldiers, plan hospital meal menus, and provide nutritional training to the military.
Without dietitians, military personnel would feel sluggish, become unhealthy, and might not be able to go on missions. In addition, dietitians help develop food and hydration guidelines based on specific missions and environments.
The military is making a big effort to serve healthy food in the mess halls. It's not just to have a svelte army, although it does help sell calendars. Believe it or not, roughly a quarter of the entry-level candidates for the military are overweight. Also, the Department of Defense spends over a billion dollars on medical care for those with excess weight, or those who are obese. Dietitians are in big demand to slim down the army. You can experience patriotic glory by giving an officer a healthy meal. Uncle Sam wants YOU...to put down that Twinkie.
