Glory
People outside of the publishing world may not know your name, but they see your work every time they read an article you've edited. It's there forever. It's your Mount Rushmore.
For most writers—or would-be writers—there's always that dream of seeing your words in print. Just because you're editing someone else's words doesn't negate the fact that you've put your own mark on them. As a lover of language, it is indeed a glorious feeling to know that people everywhere are perusing your paragraphs. Or, if not everywhere, at least in places where reading is still in vogue.
