Sabotage. Salary: $20,000
You've finally made it to Nationals for the first time. Sadly, your blade gets caught on a stray bobby pin that fell off the last skater onto the ice, which throws off your triple lutz-double toe combination and sends you flying toward the backboard, where you're knocked out cold, smashing your jaw and knocking out four teeth. On the upside, losing weight will be much easier now that you won't be able to eat solid food.
So Judgmental. Salary: $26,700
You're late for warm-up at Worlds and there's one parking spot left in the lot. Lucky you. You hit the gas and screech into the spot. As you get out and run up the steps to the rink, a man in the car that was waiting patiently for the spot that you just stole yells something very nasty at you. You shrug it off, but later when you're entering the ice for your short program, you recognize him as one of your judges. Better luck next year.
Foiled Again. Salary: $30,000
Leading after the short program at your first international competition, you feel a burst of pride and excitement heading out on the ice for your long program. You skate over to your coach, who's about to excitedly say something to you when he clutches at his chest and keels over the side onto the ice. It's only a mild heart attack and he'll be fine. You, however, are disqualified for not starting your program in time.
Skating Scandal. Salary: $45,560
You're so excited to be on the podium, having won the bronze in the Figure Skating Championships in the year that the top three skaters are being put on the Olympic team. You shriek and cry tears of joy, knowing you've secured yourself a spot on the team and your dream is about to come true. Unfortunately, the governing council has other plans, and takes the fourth place skater on the team instead of you. Oh well, there's always Stars on Ice.
Fancy Dancer. Salary $87,340
You just completed the skate of your life and you've won Olympic Gold. Fame and fortune are yours. You can finally pay your parents back for all of their sacrifices. Your agent is already fielding more calls from sponsors than you can manage. There's a book deal in the works and a guest spot on your favorite sitcom. You're on the cover of Skating magazine (and every other magazine under the sun). The president of the United States invites you to dinner and Dancing with the Stars wants you to be their next headliner.
