Physical Danger
Sure, you say, firefighting is dangerous―just take a look at any film or TV show about it (we have one or two suggestions). But by the time the fire investigator arrives, the show's over, right? Maybe, but every once in a while there's a post-credits scene. A terrible, horrible post-credits scene. After all, buildings that have been on fire aren't always the safest places to walk around in or near (strange, we know).
Floorboards that look stable might give at any moment, while leaking pipes offer fumes that are dangerous to inhale and may just explode. If you're in the dwelling of an arsonist or pipe bomber, there may be materials scattered about that seem benign but actually want to hurt you.
Safety precautions like boots, gloves, and goggles will be required and should be worn at all times, unless you enjoy getting nails―or worse―stuck in your foot. That's why it's so important to have the firefighter experience before you take the gig―knowing the dangers lurking in the ashes will help you be prepared.
