20-Year Prospect
Let's get one thing straight: The world is not going to wake up one day within your lifetime and suddenly decide that the human race knows as much as it wants to know about genetics. Even after sequencing the entire human genome, the field of genetics has only gotten larger.
With the era of "designer babies" almost upon us, the rise of the "Jolie effect," and genetically engineered crops saving as many hungry people overseas as they are driving hippies mad with rage here at home, it feels like there's a new use for genetics almost every year.
Who's to say what's next? No one knows for sure, but the U.S. Government's Bureau of Labor Statistics sure isn't worried. They peg job growth in this field at an incredible 41% over the next ten years (source).
