Power

You can be the team Captain, Assistant Captain, the Enforcer, or the Star, all of which entail some kind of on-ice power. But it pretty much ends when you step off the ice, or at least when you leave the locker room to go home. The biggest stars may have negotiating power when it comes to their contracts or endorsements, but outside the sport, unless you can parlay your success into a political career à la Jon Runyan (NFL offensive tackle turned U.S. Congressman) or Dave Bing (NBA All-Star guard turned Mayor of Detroit), the hockey player's power generally stops at the ice’s edge.
