So long as society exists there's probably going to be some sort of governing body dictating how many pools people can have in their backyard. Unless there's some sort of anarchic, cataclysmic shift in the organization of our society, the local politician is likely to remain an important position. So work on your schmoozing charm and community development plans, because you can bet the mayor's office will still be waiting once you're ready to take the reins.
