20-Year Prospect
Online e-commerce seems to harm just about every other existing industry these days, but it's actually logisticians. The job market in logistics is expected to grow a whopping 22% percent within the next decade (source). Think about that for a second. Twenty-two percent is a whole lot.
Not only will the industry as we know it grow, but you can expect it to diversify as well. Companies like Amazon are already offering same-day ice cream delivery and building a flying robot army to helicopter you toothbrushes and headphones. No one could have predicted that twenty years ago, and we can't even begin to imagine the technology that will fuel logistics in the future.
One thing is for certain though: people will still need product moved. Even if delivery services get increasingly automated, someone has to be the one to get those robots in gear. The job will certainly shift, but it's not going away anytime soon.
