Odds of Hanging On
Those who enjoy long hours of hard work in all sorts of nasty weather for less-than-average pay should have no problem hanging on once they land a job. Yeah, it sort of makes you wonder. Yet, there are plenty of people who do enjoy doing it. After all, it's less stressful than other work.
It's more difficult to find a job than it is to keep it. However, horticultural industries are innately sensitive to problems in the economy. For most of us, gardening is a luxury that we can do without when we need to spend responsibly. Slow business in retail nurseries and the landscape industries brings down business in wholesale nurseries, sometimes necessitating layoffs.
