Odds of Hanging On
One tough thing about the typical entry-level seasonal ranger position is that there's no guarantee that you'll be hired back for the next season. We recommend you really go above and beyond that first summer and be the best ranger you can be.
Being a park ranger is typically a hands-on kind of job, and your superiors want to see somebody who doesn't mind going out there and getting their hands dirty. Also, make sure you keep your nose clean. All government employees are subject to drug testing. Just sayin'.
Once you secure your first full time position, you're pretty set. Nothing is definite in this world, but your job will be way more secure than it was before. Barring massive government layoffs, you'll count on getting cozy with those benefits and maybe a baby bear or two. (Warning: Cozying with bears is inadvisable.)
