20-Year Prospect
Look, it's poetry; it's not going anywhere. High school students will still fall asleep refusing to learn about it, and college students will still waste their parents' money choosing to learn about it.
The demand for poetry in twenty years is going to be much the same as it is now. Songs are always going to be popular, certain Broadway shows are going to make it cool, and your grandfather's still going to try to impress your family with his word-for-word rendition of Casey at the Bat.
As far as technology's concerned, there's no better place for poetry to be than online. There are plenty of places for aspiring poets to ply their craft, and maybe even monetize their blog with advertisements or donation buttons. You might even be able to crowdfund your own poetry book...so long as you can prove to your friends that your talent's worth them entering their credit card information.
