Power
A lot of people go into artsy, freelance careers because they don't care about having power over other people. They just want to be free to pursue their craft, live by a flexible schedule, and make their own rules. That's where a potter's power lies: you're your own boss. Naptime is back, baby.
The ability to make your own schedule and business model means you have a lot of influence over your day-to-day life. Sure, you still have to pay your taxes in a timely fashion, but so does everyone else. If you have kids who need watching or a secondary part-time gig, a flexible schedule can make a world of difference.
One thing you won't have any power over? Your customers. You can't make them like or buy your work, and you can't tell them to shove off if they get too finicky about the size of the flowers on that custom plate you're making them. The customer is always right, and you'll be working morning, noon, and night to make sure they're happy.
