Administrative Assistant. Salary: $40,000 or less
With two heavy boxes loaded up in your arms, you follow the employment coordinator down the hall to where you'll be staying. After passing every office, you finally come to your new home for the next few years: a broom closet remodeled into a tiny office. Looking in, you say hello to Trevor; as the new assistants, you guys get to share.
Public Works Specialist. Salary: $55,000
Looking over the financial numbers, you get the ledger ready to be delivered to the committee meeting this afternoon. You do one final check, and then realize you've made a terrible error. The materials needed were measured out in feet, but for some reason your calculator was set to meters. You hope the committee doesn't notice the extra $18 million you're about to ask for.
Project Coordinator. Salary: $65,000
After the team meeting, you start divvying out the jobs for the next week. You make sure to drive home the point that Jared has been slacking a bit, and you explain in detail exactly what you expect of him over the next seven days. The team waits for you to finish, then looks around the room before finally asking, "Who the heck is Jared?" You realize you fired Jared several weeks ago.
DPW Supervisor. Salary: $80,000
Your phone hasn't stopped ringing since the mayor announced his new Parks Initiative. Half of the calls are people who are angry their businesses will be affected, the other half from people who are angry their businesses won't be affected enough. As always, you tell them the same thing: if it helps the town, it'll help the business. It certainly isn't helping your headache though.
City Manager. Salary: $100,000
Looking out over the 3D model of downtown laid out on the table, you step back to take it all in. You love it, but you're wondering why the developers imagined putting a river of black water down Seventh Street. Realizing you spilled your coffee, you call out to your assistant for a napkin.
