Glory
True, you could win an Oscar. One person each year wins an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and one person wins one for Best Adapted Screenplay. That’s it. Often it’s won by a writer who has won before. And these are the folks that the band plays almost immediately after they’ve won their award and are about to make the speech they’ve waited their whole lives for – so don’t spend too much time worrying about it.
Sure there are Writer’s Guild Awards, where your peers give you statues for your work. And you’ll get invited to speak at your alma matter about how cool it is to be a working screenwriter. But that sort of glory is short lived, so enjoy it while it lasts.
