Fame
Fame? Among your peers and colleagues, maybe. Merchant sailing, the Navy, and the Coast Guard are all really small worlds where people come to know those who are put in command. Reputations are built over the course of careers, and working people tend to take those reputations pretty seriously.
The Average Joe and Jane America aren't likely to know who these captains—or any other kinds of captains—are, unless some captain sinks a massive cruise ship or Hollywood decides to make a movie about them (or both). But that's hardly likely for your average captain. We can pretty safely put this one in the "no" column, as far as fame is concerned.
