Fame

Yes, we've all seen the heart-stopping moments on TV medical dramas. A patient on the operating table flatlines and the entire medical team, moving very quickly and shouting out all kinds of medical terms, puts forth a heroic effort and resuscitates the patient. The next day, it's the talk of the hospital.

This could happen to you. Of course, "the talk of the hospital" might not be the red carpet-type of fame you're thinking of—that'd be reserved for the actors in those medical dramas.

The sad truth is even if you're part of a surgical team that pulls off a miracle surgery, it'll probably only be the surgeon in charge who becomes anything close to a household name. (These days, though, surgeons in that category can use that fame to put themselves on the map.)

If you're just the surgical assistant helping out, you probably won't be recognized outside the halls of your hospital. But if you keep a copy of that day's surgery schedule, we bet your mom will post it up on the refrigerator for all the family and neighbors to see. She'll probably even have you autograph it.
