You never hear about people quaking in their boots because a powerful zoologist is coming to town. Still, zoologists are definitely powerful in their own way.
Through their observations, research, lectures, and publications, zoologists have the power to directly affect the lives of the billions of other living organisms on this planet. Zoologists can save entire species from going extinct. The whales might not be able to say thank you, but they probably would if they could.
Zoologists also have the power to radically affect the lives of humans. By geeking out on animals, we've learned all kinds of things about ourselves. Genetics, neuroscience, evolution, climate change—discoveries in these and many other fields have drastically changed the way we think about our place in the world. Sigh...trust humans to always make it about us somehow.
