Pose and respond to specific questions to clarify or follow up on information, and make comments that contribute to the discussion and link to the remarks of others.

Good indicators that students are fully engaged are if they're following up on what's already been said, asking clarifying questions, and thoughtfully answering questions. How will you know this standard is met if you have shy ones or if you can't eavesdrop on every discussion group? Have students write down questions, or have them write down the most thought provoking question they heard during discussion.
