Grade 4
Speaking and Listening SL.4.3
Identify the reasons and evidence a speaker provides to support particular points.
Understanding a writer's point is fine and dandy, but being able to pull apart their point is even dandier. Have young writers think about how a speaker presents specific reasons to make one broad point. This substandard can work on multiple levels: students can analyze a speaker's point and use it as a model to craft their own writing.
