Common Core Standards
Grade 4
Reading: Literature—Grade 4
We're hitting the fourth grade, and you know what that means? Prepping for middle school. Our kiddos are starting to move up in the ranks developmentally and we'll be requiring more of them.
These standards build on the third grade list, but we add some detail to the mix. Your students should be making connections between texts and other forms of media, making meaningful observations about differing first and third points of view, and understanding the significance of allusions.
There are ten total standards here, but they often fit together hand in glove. For instance, those mythical allusions in RL.4.4 fit perfectly with RL.4.9. They both require knowledge of myth and can both interact as mutual supports. Anytime you can smoosh two or three standards together, the better. The more exposure—and the more diverse the exposure—the more prepared your fourth graders will be.
