Go ahead and pick a topic, any topic, and you're likely to find it in The Fault in Our Stars—Shakespeare, star-crossed lovers, death, the meaning of life, love, pain, coming-of-age, sexual awakening, Maslow's hierarchy of needs (remember that from college?), heaven and hell, friendship, search for significance, video games, philosophers…Once you've picked a topic, you and your class can spend your always discussing, analyzing, and debating it.

What does this mean for you as a teacher? You've got both an easy and a difficult time in front of you. It's easy because there's so much to talk about, and it's difficult because, well, there's so much to talk about. Break out the tissues, don't gloss over the tough stuff, and encourage your students to dig deep into the meaning of life.
