Feed Chapter 31 Summary

the real thing

  • Titus and his pals are psyched, because Coke is running a promotion: if you talk lots to your friends about how great Coke is, they'llgive you a free six-pack.
  • They think it's a great way to, like, stick it to the man, man. A few six-packs is some mighty resistance.
  • So, Titus picks up Violet and they had over to Marty's,where they plan to have their Coke love fest.
  • Titus and Violet sort of freak when they see their friends. They'rewearing ripped up clothes, and are walking all funky, like they've been roughed up by the police in a riot.
  • Silly kids! They're just wearing the latest in Riot GearRetro Fashion, modeled after the recent riots that have been in the news slashfeed dreams.
  • And massive Coke-love ensues. Until, that is, Loga messes upby comparing it to Pepsi.
  • Amidst the over-the-top praising of Coke, Violet gives a sarcastic commentary wondering who in the world would give a kid Coke to beginwith.
  • This is not good. The rest of the gang (except Titus) startfreezing Violet out, and she gets all quiet and awkward.
  • How ironic! The kids are so busy talking about the greattaste of Coke that they make themselves thirsty, and guess what? There's no Coke in Marty's house.
  • While they're heading out to the store, Violet commitsanother social faux pas, and indirectly insults Calista on her lack of 20th-century-riot knowledge. Oh, and she also uses the word "incited" correctly in, like, a complete sentence.
  • In true mean girl fashion, Loga and Calista go on theattack, and accuse Violet of making up nonsense words.
  • And, in true teen angst fashion, Violet demands that Titustake her home, which prompts their first fight.
