Character Analysis
Montague is captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team and a member of the Inquisitorial Squad. When he tries to pull rank on Fred and George as a member of the Squad, they "forced him head-first into that Vanishing Cabinet on the first floor" (28.21). Montague reappears trapped in a toilet and Professor Snape has to go and get him out. But even once Montague gets fished out of the toilet, something is wrong with him: he seems distressed and confused, and eventually his parents come to see Professor Umbridge, looking very angry. Hermione wonders if they should tell someone what they know about how Montague came to be injured, but both Ron and Harry think it's not worth it: he's a Slytherin and it's making trouble for Professor Umbridge. This seems rather cold-blooded to us, but, well, Montague is a member of the Inquisitorial Squad, which means he must be a bully. What do you think of the ethics of this situation? Would you have told a teacher about Montague's problems if you were in Harry, Ron, and Hermione's place?
