Hathor Sightings

Hathor Sightings

  • The Contendings of Horus and Seth 1200BC - 1100BC

This story describes the fight over the throne of Egypt between the god Horus and Seth. Hathor's father, Ra, was in a bad mood. In order to cheer up her dad, Hathor exposed herself to him. That caused him to giggle, then laugh, making him happy enough to get back to work. Hmmm. That's awkward.

  • The Book of the Dead

In this 18th dynasty book, the humans get all mushy towards Hathor. They recognize her divine ability to be awesome and basically call her the best goddess ever.

  • Hymns to Hathor from Dendera 333BC - 31BC

All mortals are slaves to Hathor—and Pharaoh is no exception. On the walls of her temple at Dendera, the goddess's worshippers dish to their mistress that the king has come to dance in her honor. There, they honor every aspect of her godhood, showing that she's the ultimate multitasker.

  • The Tale of the Doomed Prince 1551BC - 1041BC

This is a tale about an Egyptian prince whose future is predicted—and it's bad. The Seven Hathors predict that the Pharaoh's eldest son is destined for trouble. He's doomed to die by being gnawed by a crocodile, snake, or dog.
