Take this designation with a grain of salt – Miss Burden wants to be Joe's mentor. She offers him her business and her money if and only if Christmas will become a practicing Christian and if he'll try to do good for the black community. Christmas ultimately kills her for trying to mentor him, because he resents her attempt at controlling him, and her offer only reminds him of how racially confused he is.
