Sweet-natured jokesters Timon and Pumbaa become Simba's best friends in his time of need, lifting him out of the "I-might-have-killed-my-dad" dumps and helping him believe in himself again. They remain by Simba's side for the rest of his wild journey, eventually presiding over the presentation ceremony of his young son.
