Oh, the Places You'll Go! Meaning
What is this book really about?
Let's get real here. Oh, the Places You'll Go! is really about one thing: pajamas. Because if there's one thing your child should know, it's that the only way to navigate a Technicolor life is in a bright yellow onesie with a matching cap. Jeans are for the Waiting Place.
Kidding. There were some pretty awesome pajamas in the Waiting Place and it didn't seem to get them very far.
Oh, the Places You'll Go! is really about, well, the places your child will go. We're talking on both the literal and figurative levels here, because if there's one thing we know about Seuss, it's that there's always a lot that meets the eye and always a lot beneath it, too.
In that way, you can project this story onto just about any aspect of life. Seuss could be referring to careers, relationships, growing up, raising children, or even that crazy backpacking trip you took to Mongolia back in college. This story is about the highs and lows of an adventure through your child's mind.
If you need convincing of that, just look at the illustrations. They couldn't be anything more like an epic, Jungian dream. All the rules (or lack thereof) are the same as they are in our real world, and yet everything has been turned upside down. Every move the protagonist makes is of the utmost importance. How many ways can we say it? We're wandering through an allegory here, people. And what an interesting wander it is!
