Catchy Lines, Exciting Plots and Big Beautiful Images
We like Longfellow, but we admit that not everyone does. Some people find him a little corny, and poetry snobs think he's way too easy. But we don't think Longfellow would have minded that at all. This is poetry meant to touch and excite all Americans, not just the few who care a lot about poetry. Lines that might seem old to some are also really unforgettable and fun to read and repeat. In "Paul Revere's Ride," like in some of his other poems ("Hiawatha" for example), Longfellow focuses on exciting events, catchy rhythms, and images that stick with you. Despite the haters, Longfellow has been loved and passed down from generation to generation for a long time now, and we think that's probably going to continue.
