Get out the microscope, because we’re going through this poem line-by-line.
Lines 88-92
It was twelve by the village clock,
When he crossed the bridge into Medford town.
He heard the crowing of the cock,
And the barking of the farmer's dog,
And felt the damp of the river fog
That rises after the sun goes down.
- Now we start a little list of the towns that Paul rode through.
- First he went to Medford. We get some detail about Medford, but nothing too earthshaking. There's a crowing rooster (who must be pretty confused, since it's midnight), a dog, and some fog. Sorry – not the most exciting stanza in the poem.
