Your students can scarcely exist without human contact (or their 21st century texting version of it) for 24 hours, let alone 28 years. Therefore, we want you to really delve into the physical and psychological levels of being stranded and separated from all you know and love. This tale allows you to do this quite easily. Continually bring your discussions and analysis back to personal connections, loneliness, need for material goods, etc. Lesson Two will provide an excellent platform and jumping off point for these deeper discussions as we assess what is meaningful in our lives. Lesson Three will delve further into the lessons Crusoe learned while by himself, without his material possessions. 

Extend your discussions even further by trying to imagine leaving society for nearly three decades. What would have changed? Could your students adapt?
