- Khader's mafia disperses throughout the world after Abdullah's death, and Lin feels lonely.
- After a talk with Lisa, he pays three months of rent in advance and gets the watchmen to take extra care of his place. Then he drives to an opium den.
- He orders some heroin and shoots up.
- When he wakes up three months later, Nazeer is growling in his face telling him to come with him.
- He puts up a fight and Nazeer knocks him out. He comes to in a taxi. Nazeer carries him up to a house where Karla awaits.
- She takes care of him, and then says she's leaving for six weeks.
- Lin sleeps and wakes up to Khader. Lin asks if Abdullah really was Sapna. Khader tells him no, that the real Sapna is dead.
- Khader proposes that Lin accompany him to Afghanistan; he needs someone to pose as an American for a smuggling mission.
- When Lin is about to break down from the withdrawal, Nazeer ties him up and won't let him leave the bed.
- After twelve days, he's through the worst of it. Nazeer starts training him to ride horses so that he'll be ready for the Afghan mission.
- Lin is not a natural horseman; in fact, he's awful. But he stays after it.
- One day, Vikram runs into him at the stables, gets him to dance for the horses, and gives him his lucky cowboy hat.
- Karla appears again. They make out and then get it on. He tells her he loves her but she doesn't reciprocate.
- She leaves that night in a taxi. Bummer.
