Character Analysis

Peekay's grandpa, his mother's father, is a sweet, quiet old man. He spends his days caring for his beloved chickens and, when they have to be exterminated because of a disease, moves to the town where his wife died in childbirth to take care of the rose garden he had planted for her when they were young.

Even though he doesn't say much, grandpa is very proud of Peekay and usually takes his side (behind the scenes, of course) in Peekay's battles with his mother. It's always nice to have an ally, especially a good-natured, pipe-smoking one.
