Some of your students—particularly those who enjoy playing one or more of the 20+ versions of Risk on weekends—will be thrilled to hear that you're studying World War II. They love talking military strategy, war tech, and battle lore, and they'll get to do a little of that in this unit... but only a very little. Because this unit is about the U.S. home front during World War II, and the fighting? Didn't take place there.

America's experience in World War II was nothing like that of its allies. While the British, French, Russians, and Chinese faced invasion, occupation, and unfathomable civilian casualties, Americans enjoyed full employment, high wages, and no destruction of the homeland. The military battles of World War II were fought far away from the American home front, so you'll have to find other ways to engage your battle-loving students.
