looking for a job? well then you probably have a resume or two on hand.
- 00:06
and hopefully they don't say yeah I'm an expert at watching Netflix while eating
- 00:11
pizza and holding my cat. and those are the kind of multitasking skills you
- 00:16
won't find every day. though who knows that might be just what some employers
- 00:19
want to hear. anyway no matter how smart and witty you are it's unlikely that a [man in glasses gives a thumbs up]

piece of paper will be able to completely replicate your winning
- 00:26
personality even if you take a picture of your face to the front. luckily
- 00:30
there's actually a recipe for good resume. more specifically a recipe for
- 00:35
sauce. skills and abilities awards and accomplishments understandable language
- 00:41
certifications and licenses and education and experience. and don't worry
- 00:46
if you're not a world-class chef you should be able to handle this recipe
- 00:49
even if you can't toast bread .here's a hint don't use a blow dryer. a resume is
- 00:54
a great place to list all your skills and abilities that it make you an asset
- 00:58
in the workplace. teamwork problem-solving skills computer literacy
- 01:02
adaptability you know stuff like that. the number of gumballs you can fit in [skills and abilities list]
- 01:06
your mouth at the same time might be impressive but you should probably leave
- 01:10
that one off your resume .it's also a good idea to make a list of all the
- 01:14
awards that you earn throughout your high school year or whether they're
- 01:17
educational athletic community-based or otherwise. then narrow down the list to
- 01:21
the awards that might advance your standing with your potential employer
- 01:24
and list them on the resume. luckily you don't have to include the actual awards.
- 01:28
if you're a real winner you might end up breaking some poor interns back.
- 01:32
understandable language might not be as flashy as trophies but it's still pretty
- 01:37
important. your resume is going to be read by human resource managers ,and the [handwritten resume pictured]
- 01:42
harder it is to read the more tempted belt be to toss it in the trash.
- 01:45
but on the bright side at least your resume will come in handy in their quest
- 01:48
to be the best trash ball player in the office. if that's not something you want
- 01:53
well that means you have to start proofreading intensely to make sure
- 01:56
everything reads just right. use all the tools available to you spelling grammar
- 02:01
correction software reading it aloud send it over to someone else to read you know
- 02:04
like all that. certification can be tricky for teenagers due to their age
- 02:09
and lack professional experience they're unlikely
- 02:12
to have closets brimming with certificates .still in certain states
- 02:16
teens can earn specialized certifications if they attend classes
- 02:19
and successfully complete requirements for stuff like CPR and First Aid Fitness
- 02:25
instruction nursing assistance welding computer literacy personal finances [list of certificate courses scrolls by]
- 02:30
communication and office technology. try to avoid taking all those courses at the
- 02:35
same time though or you might accidentally find yourself giving CPR to
- 02:38
a fax machine .last but not least you need to include your education and
- 02:41
experience. and don't worry if you don't have three PhDs and a successful career
- 02:45
in mining. there are proper ways to list your education and experience on your
- 02:49
resume however much or little of it you have. if you're a high school graduate
- 02:53
include the name your high school in its city and state as well as your
- 02:56
graduating year. once you graduate from college you'll replace that same info
- 03:00
with similar facts about those ever college you went to. can also include any
- 03:03
info about clubs or activities your participated in .you didn't spend all
- 03:08
your time in school behind a desk so if you were the head of the debate team or
- 03:11
captain of swim team well you'll want to include that. just don't
- 03:15
to add this info while you're still in the pool. your experience gets written up
- 03:18
in a similar pattern include up to three employers for each one writing your job
- 03:22
title location of employment the city and state again and the dates of [experience list shown]
- 03:26
employment the month and year that you started and ended and be sure to include
- 03:31
your accomplishments. a bolt list of three or four or five things we
- 03:34
accomplished while working for the particular employer. these should be more
- 03:38
than just job duties and probably shouldn't include supplied my boss with
- 03:42
plenty of trash ball balls. yeah trust us that key role you played in that big
- 03:47
project is way more impressive than all the time you spent refilling the copy
- 03:50
machine. well follow this recipe and your resume will be a smash at parties. well
- 03:55
human resource parties anyway [men smile at a party]
