As someone whose entire job is to perform ancient techniques, an acupuncturist is unlikely to become famous for discovering something new. Remember, your entire mantra is, "look, we figured it out already," so if there was ever any fame to be had in placing needles in someone's elbow, we tend to think it was already sucked dry by the medical masterminds of Neolithic China.
