Odds of Getting In
It's not impossible to earn your inspector star, but you'd better get used to fixing and flying planes for the time being. This isn't a growth industry, and who knows how many mechanics and pilots are vying for inspector positions the same year that you are? But that shouldn't be a problem for you. After all, if you don't like working on or with planes, then you're going to hate doing even more of it as an actual, factual inspector.
Keep your head down, do great work, and reduce the number of times your current inspector needs to pull you aside to point out mistakes. With enough hard work and drive, you'll get there. Just don't be surprised if you end up stewing in the hanger for a bit before you do.
