Odds of Getting In
It’s expensive and takes a long time to become a qualified airline pilot. If you have the money and the stamina, you’ll get there. If you want a shortcut, you can join the military and get your training done there, but you risk active service and making your job a whole lot more dangerous than it has to be.
Most airline pilots are in the 40’s, so it is a long haul. But, once you get over that hill, job hunting shouldn’t be too hard. It’s still competitive—especially since airlines aren’t doing so well nowadays—but people are always going to need to fly. And, because most pilots retire when they are 65, there is a fairly high turnover rate.
