If you're an academic Egyptologist, relax. Nobody ever died from paper cuts. Same goes for those who work in cultural facilities. Museum Egyptologists happily report that no mummies have come to life in the lab and strangled them.
Egyptian archaeologists potentially have more health risks, from heatstroke to sandstorms injury on the job. And let's not forget that after having a stable government for four decades, the country has recently experienced a lot of turmoil.
A revolution, an election, and a military coup all within a few years don't point to the greatest amount of security. Even Egypt's usually rock-solid tourism reputation has taken a hit (source).
You may be concerned about ancient curses and long-forgotten booby traps, but don't forget that the modern world has its own fun set of dangers too.
