Physical Danger
Worst-case scenario: You could realistically kill yourself or someone else on the job. Luckily, fatalities and injuries are down in this field in recent years. In 1994, the Electrical Safety Foundation International reported 348 fatalities and 6,018 injuries. In 2001, only 212 people died from electrically-related deaths on the job and 2,540 people were injured.
Fortunately, this trend is continuing. Part of the success in lowering the number of deaths and injuries on the job can be attributed to rules and restrictions put in place by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
While workplace injuries have decreased, they haven't been eliminated, so electricians must always put safety first when on the job. You don't need to necessarily wear reflective pants while you work. You're thinking of "riding a bike late at night."
