Odds of Getting In
If you've gone to Mortuary School, chances are you're pretty darn serious about this whole funeral service business (either that, or your guidance counselor just stopped caring). That'll help you get your foot in the door with funeral parlors and medical research departments. But getting in doesn't make you a full embalmer; you have to make it through an apprenticeship first. Think of it as a corporate internship, only way more goth.
After a certain number of jobs (which, in this case, actually means bodies), you'll be recognized as an embalmer and get to have the embalming table all to yourself.
Funeral service jobs are expected to increase about 12% by 2022 (source) , so if you can put up with the strange hours, the lonely work environment, and morbid apprenticeship, there should be plenty of work ahead.
