Finding an entry-level job or internship is relatively easy. However, moving up is where it gets tricky. People tend to hang onto their jobs for life when they land the dream spot at a small, cozy firm or make a name for themselves in the corporate world. As a result, there are a large number of people jockeying for a limited number of spots. And those people are probably just as qualified and cut-throat as you are. Shucks, and you thought you were so unique. Thanks a lot, Mom.
If you want to make a name for yourself in entertainment law, you'll need to forge strong and useful connections with important people. It's both what you know and who you know. You don't get the luxury of focusing on one or the other. So, keep that charming smile plastered on your face and suck up to the higher-ups every chance you get. Helping a star or two gain worldwide fame or avoid prison for the fourth time won't hurt your chances either.
