20-Year Prospect
Nearly 228 million people went to the movies in the United States and Canada at least once in 2013 to see your work...not that any of those moviegoers know they were watching your work, but still: They're the reason your career will be alive and well twenty years from now.
You are the unsung hero of the film industry. Say it takes three months to shoot a film; you might spend six or nine months editing twenty to forty hours of footage into something worth watching.
The end result of your editing work (okay, so the actors and the director and all the other crew members matter, too) in 2013? Nearly $11 billion in domestic box office receipts. That's equal to the GDP of Albania, yo.
Given that you're an integral part of Hollywood making lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of money, we can safely say that you'll have a job in two decades.
