Physical Danger
Grant writing is a fairly tame career. You won't be swallowing swords or jumping through flaming rings. (Unless you write a grant proposal to fund your new sword-swallowing business: Pain in the Neck. Good luck with that.)
As with all desk jobs, it does come with its fair share of back pain, neck pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Invest in that ergonomic chair and keyboard. Your back and wrists will thank you.
While you may not be jumping through rings of fire, burns are still a risk. If you've never dumped a scalding cup of coffee on your lap, take it from us: it's no fun. Keep an eye on your organic, free-trade, cinnamon-infused bold roast. Or better yet, put a lid on it.
Even if you freelance from your home office (read: in your pajamas), chances are at some point you'll venture out to schmooze with a potential client or grantmaker (hopefully not while still in your pajamas). If you drive a car to these schmooze fests, there's an increased risk of auto accidents. Buckle up for safety.
